WELCOME!

We have set up this project journal to provide information on the research project Media Amateurs in Gay Culture, which aims to gather valuable cultural scientific insights into popular culture, amateur culture, photographic history, gay and queer culture. We are keen to generate interest in the topic of self-representation in relation to photography, film, the internet, identity formation, gender and sexuality. To this end we explore the world of amateur photographers and other non-specialists who are active in the field of queer culture, with a specific focus on representations of masculinity.

Our work involves carrying out research in national and international archives, initiating and participating in conferences and symposia, visiting museums and special exhibitions, and organizing workshops and meetings. We would like to use this project journal to describe and report on these activities.

We are keen to exchange information and knowledge with anyone interested in this topic – researchers, non-specialists and other interested parties from the realms of scholarly investigation, amateur photography or subculture – and would welcome your suggestions and contributions. Please feel free to contact us!
